Our NSF grant is finally funded after a long process of review and budget negotiation. Through this project the EMAIL team will be collaborating with Dr. Zona, Oechel, Lipson at SDSU to examine the methane at zero curtian period at Alaska. Congratulations again!!
Knowledge of the impact of climate change on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the Arctic is critical to predicting future climate change impacts on the sustainability of the environment and society.
The goal of this project is to fill a major gap in knowledge on CH4 fluxes from tundra ecosystems: The pattern and controls on Arctic CH4 fluxes outside of the growing season and particularly during the periods of fall freeze up, winter, and spring active layer thawing.
Results from this project are critical to estimating the current CH4 budget and for improving predictions of future CH4 loss from the Arctic following climate change.
